Why English? Rethinking Ideas and Setting Goals
It’s fairly safe to say that English has been, and continues to be the global lingua franca, a bridging language between individuals whose native tongues differ. It serves as the official language of numerous international organizations such as the United Nations and the European Union, and it also functions as a de facto second language, official or not, in countries all over the world like the Philippines, India, and Nigeria. So it’s no surprise that English is also the most popular second language to learn worldwide with some countries going as far to make it a mandatory part of their curriculum and even college entrance exam (looking at you Japan).
While native English speakers have the luxury of absorbing the language growing up, the rest of the world has to grapple with finding the motivation to keep studying this notoriously hard language. Even as a native English speaker myself, I still struggle daily with the quirks of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. But, if you stick to your studies, your newfound language abilities will pay you back in more ways than you can imagine.
English is nuts.
This blog will go over efficient and effective goal setting strategies as well as hopefully reveal a new way of thinking about English language study – or any language study for that matter. Studying a second language should be fun and rewarding overall, and although that might not be apparent when you’re flipping through piles of flashcards for the seventh time, it will all be worth it in the end.
